Why a Ragdoll May Be the Right Cat for You

1. This is one affectionate kitty.

Forget standoffish. This tends to be one friendly feline. The Ragdoll can be laid-back and loves his human companions. He often likes to cuddle and, much like a dog, will follow you from room to room — that’s how he got the oft-used nickname “puppycat.” He may even be wiling to play fetch and walk on a leash.

2. His name suits him.

The relaxed Ragdoll got his name because of his demeanor. When you pick him up and cuddle him, he often goes limp and relaxed, just like a ragdoll.

3. This “puppycat” is a dog lover.

Not only does this fur ball sometimes act like a dog, but he also tends to get along well with one. Ragdolls are known for their tolerant attitudes with other animals.

4. He can top the scales.

This gentle giant is one of the largest cat breeds and needs to be supported with both hands when held. Males can weigh up to 20 pounds, and females can weigh up to 15 pounds. When Ragdolls are kittens, they have rapid growth spurts, so it’s important to make sure they get enough to eat. They reach full size when they’re around 4 years old.

5. He’s got a quality coat.

The Ragdoll’s beautiful, silky coat is soft and easy to groom. His coat, which is medium long and comes in four patterns and six colors, should be brushed once or twice a week to avoid mats and tangles. Because of his accepting personality, he’ll probably enjoy the grooming.
